From KENS5 – May is Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month. Making sure your bone health is in tip top shape before any problems is a must. Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become weak and brittle, increasing the risk of a fracture, especially if you are a woman. Annette Gantz, a nurse practitioner with WellMed told us, “Primary osteoporosis is because of menopause. Estrogen helps hold onto bone, and so as women age and go through menopause, they start losing bone at a faster rate, and the first ten years after menopause is when we’re losing bone fastest.”
