NOF’s Online Community, Hosted by Inspire, Offers Peer-to-Peer Support for Osteoporosis Patients and Caregivers

The National Osteoporosis Foundation’s Online Community, hosted by Inspire, recently celebrated its 30,000 member milestone. Offering osteoporosis patients and caregivers a place to turn for peer-to-peer support, the online community has experienced rapid membership growth since launching in October of 2007. To celebrate the 30,000 member milestone, NOF will feature 30 days of community heroes to recognize several of the online community’s original members who are still active and posting helpful information today.

With an estimated 54 million U.S. adults at risk for osteoporosis and low bone mass, more than one-half of the U.S. adult population over age 50 is at risk of breaking a bone and should be concerned about their bone health. NOF’s online support community offers the millions of people just finding out they have osteoporosis or are at high risk for fractures a place to turn for support and advice from others who are going through the same experience.

“Our online community connects people with osteoporosis or an interest in bone health, allowing them to share advice, support and experience with one another,” said Amy Porter, executive director and CEO, NOF. “We’re thrilled more than 30,000 people are now taking advantage of this free online resource and are thankful for our longstanding partnership with Inspire and the support of our team of volunteer moderators for making the community’s growth and continued success possible.”

Inspire recently redesigned NOF’s online support community platform to offer an improved user experience for members. The site’s improved navigation makes it easier for community members to connect and engage with one another and the new mobile-first design provides a better user experience for the community’s rapidly growing audience of mobile-first users.

“The National Osteoporosis Foundation is the most respected and trusted osteoporosis organization in the U.S.,” said Inspire CEO Brian Loew. “NOF has been a wonderful partner in growing the online community and the 30,000 member milestone is a testament to the organization’s unwavering focus on providing support to people affected by osteoporosis.”

NOF’s online support community is free to join and participation is open to people with osteoporosis, as well as caregivers, family members, health professionals and anyone concerned about their bone health.
