Our Mission
Promote strong bones for life, prevent and treat osteoporosis and fractures, and optimize mobility and lifespan following fractures through programs of public and clinician awareness, education, advocacy, and research.
Our Strategic Plan 2025-2027
This strategic plan outlines the impact we aim to have on improving bone health and minimizing the effect of osteoporosis in America and how we will achieve this. It addresses our dual focus on prevention and disease management and supports our call to action: Healthy Bones, Build Them for Life.®
Educate People About Bone Health Throughout the Lifespan
More people will know what to do at every stage of life to build and maintain strong bones and prevent osteoporotic fractures.
2025-2027 Strategies:
- Develop survey tools to set base line metrics, help identify gaps in bone health and osteoporosis education and data, and measure change.
- Establish mission driven partnership(s) with school-based organization(s), e.g., the National Parent Teacher Association (National PTA).
- Expand BHOF’s strategic alliance with the National Menopause Foundation (NMF) and its Women’s Midlife Health Policy Institute.
- Elevate BHOF as a media resource nationally for broadcast, print, and digital media.
- Partner with BHOF’s Support Groups and Peer Educators on community outreach.
Empower People with Osteoporosis to Live Longer, Fracture Free Lives
People will be informed about the risk factors for osteoporosis, the available treatment options, and how to prevent future fractures and will be supported by BHOF and the bone health community.
2025-2027 Strategies:
- Strengthen and expand bone health and osteoporosis infrastructures and partnerships, especially targeting underserved populations.
- Increase BHOF-led engagement and activity on the Inspire Online Community.
- Create coordinated educational programming across all BHOF communication platforms and assets.
- Provide new educational tools to HCPs responsible for osteoporosis care.
- Target state legislatures for bone health and osteoporosis awareness initiatives and action.
Ensure Comprehensive Post-FractureCare
Obtaining comprehensive, coordinated post-fracture care will be simple, affordable, and available to everyone who breaks a bone over the age of 50.
2025-2027 Strategies:
- Develop consensus among bone/osteoporosis community on a national policy platform.
- Increase FLS education, growth, and reimbursement opportunities.
- Drive consensus on osteoporosis screening and treatment guidelines among medical societies.
- Increase osteoporosis clinical education targeting advance practice providers.
Expand Resources and Reach
Grow revenue by engaging more people, foundations, and companies in ways that help increase fundraising, improve the organization’s infrastructure and capacity, and provide opportunities to reach younger and more diverse audiences.
2025-2027 Strategies:
- Add public trustees with fundraising experience.
- Add program staff to increase project capacity.
- Recruit new Corporate Advisory Roundtable (CAR)members.
- Increase size and reach of Be Bone Strong team.
- Create donor-led state/regional fundraising committees.
- Expand membership and activities of the Scientific and Medical Advisory Committee (SMAC).
2025-2027 Measures of Success
- Policy changes that improve consumer/patient access to bone density screening, diagnosis, and treatment options.
- Consensus statement from medical societies about guideline consolidation for osteoporosis.
- Identifying research gaps and initiating new national research related to bone and osteoporosis.
- Increase access to appropriate post-fracture care for adults over the age of 50.
- Decrease in fragility fractures in the Medicare population.
- Increase in bone density screenings (DXA)in the Medicare population.
- Increase in awareness about the importance of bone health across all age groups.
- Support Osteoporosis Awareness and Prevention Month activities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
- Increase in the number and type of corporate sponsors.
